2017 Genesis G90: Priced Like Lexus LS, Aims At S-Class

Hyundai’s Genesis sedan isn’t exactly a newcomer in the premium flagship sedan market, but the 2017 Genesis G90 is. It has been made with the likes of the Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7-Series, and Jaguar XJ in mind, but would need to work its way up among such established nameplates.

That’s why it’s priced like the Lexus LS instead of the Audi A8. There are two engine options – the smaller one is a 3.3L twin-turbo V6 that delivers 365hp and 376lb-ft torque, the other is a 5.0L V8 worth 420hp and 383lb-ft torque.

The G90 3.3T Premium powered by the turbo V6 starts at $68,100 for the RWD model and $70,600 for the AWD. As for the G90 5.0 Ultimate, the RWD configuration costs $69,700 while the AWD asks for $72,200. Prices aren’t inclusive of the $950 destination charge.

With such prices and output, aiming for the $95,000 S-Class or the $81,500 7-Series seems a little out of reach for the G90 though. Perhaps the more appropriate rivals for the flagship Genesis would be the Cadillac CT6 or Infiniti Q70 – perhaps even the Lincoln Continental.
