Entertainment publication Deadline Hollywood has reported that cinematic enfant bad Quentin Tarantino has pitched an idea for a new Star Trek film.

According to the showbiz news site, Tarantino is keen to take the helm of the Star Trek franchise and has come up with a storyline for the next movie. According to the outlets, the two have developed a pitch and are in the process of setting up a writers' room for the next film.

Anonymous sources have told Deadline Hollywood that the Oscar-winning writer/director has "a great idea" for a new film in the sci-fi series, which he might direct with Abrams on board as a producer.

But Tarantino has worked on projects associated with existing franchises in the past, though that's been limited to television. " Now that he's working on a Star Trek film of his own, it's possible he's aiming to adapt the timeless episode, "The City on the Edge of Forever".

Last year, the "Pulp Fiction", "Django Unchained" and "Reservoir Dogs" screen legend confirmed his plans to retire after his tenth movie, adding: "Hopefully, the way I define success when I finish my career is that I'm considered one of the greatest filmmakers that ever lived". He also made it clear he wasn't a fan of Star Trek: Into Darkness, which Abrams directed. "You could take some of the classic Star Trek episodes and easily expand them to 90 minutes or more and really do some fantastic, awesome stuff".

Still, in 2015, Tarantino did say he was more likely to direct a "Star Trek" movie over "Star Wars". Huahua Media financed Star Trek Beyond in 2016.
