DEVELOPING Police responding to shooting at Aztec High School

Aztec Police say the shooter is down and that at least two people were shot.

Two students were killed in the shooting and the shooter is dead as well, according to KRQE News.

The families of the victims have been notified and none of the dead have yet been identified, the Farmington Daily Times reported.

Other schools in the area also were locked down as a precaution. Aztec is located in northwest New Mexico.

The Albuquerque Journal reported that the victims are believed to be students.

Deputies with the San Juan County Sheriff's Office told reporters that a suspect was in custody but they did not release any other information.

Aztec is a rural community of 6,500 people in the heart of northwestern New Mexico's oil and gas country and near the Navajo Nation.

Officials posted on Facebook shortly before 9 a.m. that the school is being evacuated. He did not say whether anyone had been injured or killed.
