Texas Tech Football vs. USF: 5 bold predictions for Birmingham Bowl

He got his 12th start of the season in the Birmingham Bowl and completed 32 of 59 passes for for 416 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

But while Flowers and Co. struggled, the Red Raiders were held in check primarily by senior nose guard Deadrin Senat, who had three sacks in the first half, two of which ended Red Raiders drives.

The risque Birmingham Bowl trophy, replete with its sculpture of a bare-bottomed Roman god.

Flowers completed 17 of his 34 passes on the day, throwing for 311 yards and four touchdowns. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Bulls are 3-point favorites to beat the Red Raiders, who opened as a 3-point underdog. He fumbled on the second play of the second half, setting up Texas Tech's second touchdown of the day that gave the Red Raiders a 17-10 lead.

The second came on a perfectly time wheel route that got past the Red Raiders' defense. Still, Shimonek put Texas Tech in a position to win, but the Red Raiders' defense just couldn't contain Quinton Flowers on the other side of the ball.

Tre King scored on a 4-yard touchdown trot, his five score of the year, to put the Red Raiders up 24-17 with 5:55 left in the quarter.

There's just something about South Florida quarterback Quinton Flowers and the last five or so minutes of a football game.

With 16 seconds left, Flowers threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to McCants to give USF a 38-34 lead, and after the Hail Mary pass was too short, the South Florida Bulls won the Birmingham Bowl.

USF would tie the score at ten with 51 seconds remaining in the second quarter, as McCants caught the first of his two touchdown receptions. Both were the best players Texas Tech had on offense against South Florida, and sparked the Red Raiders' offense whenever it stagnated.

South Florida made its way across midfield on a 43-yard catch from Marquez Valdes-Scantling but bogged down in the red zone and turned the ball over on downs following a fail fourth-down conversion.

Flowers scrambled for 21 yards to setup the game winning touchdown.

Shimonek and the Red Raiders were far from finished and retook the lead, 34-31, on a 8-play, 85-yard drive that was capped with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Shimonek to T.J. Vasher with 1:31 left in the game. The Red Raiders answered with a 33-yard field goal from Hatfield to take back the lead, 27-24, with 5:02 left in the game.
