The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory, which remains in effect from 9 p.m. Sunday through 7 p.m. Monday.

'Northern Ireland, western Scotland and parts of north-west England will see heavier and more persistent rain on Christmas Day, while Boxing Day is likely to be sunnier but colder for most parts'. There is a 30 percent chance of nighttime snow showers.

Days of cold are expected to follow Christmas, with temperatures expected to be in the 20s on Tuesday and Wednesday and the high teens on Thursday and Friday. Motorists were advised to use caution.

Saturday night, look for patchy blowing snow under mostly cloudy skies that will gradually become clear.

Meteorologist Alex Ferguson of the NWS Sioux Falls office said Sunday that other than the current half-inch or so of snow on the ground, Siouxlanders shouldn't expect any more of the powdery precipitation Monday.

A light snow of around an inch or less fell in Wyandotte County overnight. A LAKE SNOW WARNING is active for Ashtabula County until Wednesday at 4pm.

Chicagoans received an early present on Christmas Eve as a fast-moving weather system brought a general 1 to 3 inch snowfall to the area.

A winter weather advisory is also in effect until 4 p.m. Wind gusts could reach 28 miles per hour. Since the 1980s, white Christmases in the Rochester area have come little more than 50 percent of the time, and the trend may be decreasing still - the Christmas before last and the Christmas before that were green, too.
