Police in Troy, N.Y., said they're treating the discovery of four bodies in a basement apartment Tuesday as homicide.

According to a media report, police say a 17-year-old was seen walking behind a business in the city's downtown area late Saturday evening, around 11 p.m.

The four bodies were found inside a home at 158 Second Ave. on Tuesday, Troy Police Sgt. Mark Maloy confirmed to TIME.

Troy police officers were responding to reports of gunshots at a residence on Sunday when they found a wounded 29-year-old man on the kitchen floor, authorities said. They don't yet know the causes of death.

DeWolf also told News 10 ABC reporter Lauren Linder that he doesn't believe the deaths were a result of a random act. "It's awful, terrible, sad", he added. "Especially at this time of year". Police have not released any details about the victims, including their ages or names.

New York State Police sent investigators, including evidence technicians, computer crime specialists and criminal investigators.
