2018 Ford Mustang Catches Up To F-150 Raptor

Annual refreshes normally involve subtle aesthetic changes with some extra nifty new interior features or an updated infotainment system, but there’s going to be a major addition to the 2018 Ford Mustang – a ten-speed automatic transmission.

No, it’s the ten-speed auto transmission, the same one implemented in the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor that has been confirmed to blast out 450hp and 510lb-ft torque.

Another interpretation of the the tranny tech is found in the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, so it would be intriguing to see how the Mustang GT350 takes on its high-powered equivalent from GM in 2018.

Like the top-trim Camaro and performance F-150, the Mustang would surely not offer its 2.3L EcoBoost or 3.7 V6 models for the new ten-step program but the GT, GT350, and GT500 trims instead.

And like its full-size pickup cousin, the higher trim models of the Dearborn stallion would stand to gain considerably in the fuel economy department using the new gearbox.

For now, we don’t really know if the refreshed pony would be appearing in the 2016 LA Auto Show or the 2017 Detroit Auto Show; whether it would be making its way across the pond to European buyers also remains a mystery. We’ll find out soon enough.
