Wixen, an exclusive licensee of songs such as "Free Fallin" by Tom Petty, "Light My Fire" by the Doors, (Girl We Got a) Good Thing by Weezer and works of singers such as Stevie Nicks, is seeking damages worth at least $1.6bn (£1.2bn) along with injunctive relief. What Spotify failed to do, according to the lawsuit, was "obtain the equivalent rights for the compositions". Wixen Music Publishing filed court documents late a year ago suing Spotify, one of the leaders in music streaming, for a whopping $1.6 billion Dollars.

Additionally, Spotify was hit with two more lawsuits where the plaintiffs claim that Spotify hadn't fully complied with obligations under Section 115 of the U.S. Copyright Act.

Wixen also alleges Spotify has "knowingly, intentionally, and repeatedly" reproduced those songs over the Internet to California residents.

Wixen's lawsuit says the proposed settlement "does not adequately compensate Wixen or the songwriters it represents". Last year, the Swedish streaming giant came to a $43 million United States dollars settlement with David Lowery and Melissa Ferrick over a class action copyright lawsuit. Wixen is far from the first publisher or artist to sue them over improper compensation.

Their actual copyright lawsuit states under the segment "Nature of the Lawsuit, ' that "Wixen brings this action against Spotify for willfully infringing the copyrights in the musical compositions listed in Exhibit A (each a "Work" and collectively the 'Works")". I'll update this story if I hear back. Wixen is an independent music publisher that was formed in 1978 by Randall Wixen.
