Feces-smearing passenger prompts flight diversion: Authorities

The flyer was reportedly cooperative with the flight crew and remained seated after his bathroom escapades were stopped.

A United Airlines flight was diverted to Anchorage on Thursday night after a passenger smeared the inside of the cabin with his own feces.

Staci Feger-Pellessier, the public affairs specialist and media representative for the Anchorage F.B.I. office, said officials were notified that "an unruly passenger had caused some kind of disturbance" on the plane. Airport police told KTVA the man smeared feces inside a couple of bathrooms before taking his shirt off and attempting to stuff it into a toilet.

The disgusting incident is being investigated by both airport police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The man is not under arrest, according to Lt.

He was taken to Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage for a psychological evaluation, police said.

There were no injuries during the incident, according to Holler.

The Boeing 777 ended up having to be grounded overnight whilst the aircraft was disinfected and cleaned up.

United Airlines has not yet responded to requests for comment.
