Earlier in the day, five bodies were recovered from a spot in Kupwara where a auto carrying six people swept away by a huge avalanche of snow.

"The driver of a passenger vehicle affected by the avalanche had escaped unhurt", Kupwara deputy commissioner Khalid Jahangir told Hindustan Times.

Nearly three hours after the avalanches, a 7-year-old was found alive and shifted to Kupwara hospital from he was referred to Srinagar hospitalized treatment.

According to reports that total number of people killed in the avalanche has risen to ten.

The death toll of the avalanche that hit Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara on Friday mounted to eight on Saturday. "While one of them, that of beacon officer MP Singh, was found late Friday evening, remaining bodies were recovered on Saturday", He said, adding that three persons were already rescued and have been hospitalised.

He said police, army, SDRF and local volunteers were taking part in the rescue operation. "His body has been recovered", he said. Multiple avalanches struck Khoni Nallah this week and swept away nearly 10 persons.

She conveyed her sympathies to the bereaved families.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has directed the Kupwara district administration to ensure all possible medical assistance to the injured in the accident.

Locals protested against the authorities, demanding construction of a tunnel to avoid frequent accident on the Kupwara-Tangdhar road, particularly at Sadhna top.

Minister for Tourism, Tassaduq Hussain Mufti also expressed grief and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
