Sea of Thieves Closed Beta Coming January 24-29! - Xbox Wire

Microsoft is going all out for its support for "Sea of Thieves", its upcoming big release set to come out on February 6. All that and we hosted our biggest ever Technical Alpha play session last month.

It was announced today the closed beta for Sea of Thieves would kick off on January 24 and run through January 29. This time, to celebrate the upcoming action-adventure-pirating game Sea of Thieves, Microsoft will release a new controller with a glowing-in-the-dark skull in the middle.

When it comes to accessing the closed beta, those who either joined the game's Insider Program prior to December 1 or have preordered the game will be able to participate. Those who pre-ordered the game are also a shoe-in. We've crafted a bespoke experience for Closed Beta players that offers a true taste of the pirate life and a great chance to get your sea legs ahead of March 20! You will also get a 14 day trial for Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass. But then again, if you find one that really catches your fancy, especially if you like having a talking point among gaming friends, something like the new Sea of Thieves gamepad could be a good choice.

Microsoft said the closed beta will not be covered by an NDA as previously thought, so players can stream, create videos, share clips, take screenshots and everything else in between.

Sea of Thieves is scheduled to release on March 20 for the Xbox One and PC.
