Earlier this week, Bannon was forced to leave his role as executive chairman of Breitbart News, the conservative outlet whose platform propelled him to national prominence, in the wake of anger from the White House about comments he made in a new book by journalist Michael Wolff, "Fire and Fury".

Reuters/Brian McDermidMichael Wolff and Henry Holt Co.'s legal counsel has fired back to President Donald J. Trump's lawyer regarding their cease-and-desist letter.

The book has given rise to public questions about whether Mr Trump is mentally unfit for office, prompting the President's now-storied rebuttal boast that he is "a very stable genius".

The majority of the book's recent reviews on Amazon come from readers either confusing it for Wolff's take on the Trump administration or joking about the similarity between the two titles.

He added that "the media will ultimately support Trump in the end, because they're going to say, if Trump doesn't win in three years, they're all out of business".

Wolff has developed a reputation as someone capable of exaggerating the truth, but he also is a world-class writer who managed to obtain unprecedented access to the Trump White House.

Bannon is of interest to House investigators for his time working on the Trump campaign.

The book takes its name from the phrase "Fire and Fury", which was first used by Trump in August 2017 as a threat to North Korea following a series of missile tests.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders described the president's reaction to the book.

After U.S. president Donald Trump's personal attorney sent a cease-and-desist letter to Wolff's publisher, Henry Holt, the company moved the book's on-sale date to January 5, from its original date of January 9.

Let me not go there.

Staff, according to Wolff, is concerned about the POTUS' repetitions.

During his remarks Trump swung from praising his own meeting coverage to telling journalists that they were dependent on his presidency for ratings to threatening a "strong look" at libel laws. He has not said exactly what he wants in return for keeping the program.

In the book, Bannon is quoted as calling Donald Trump Jr.'s 2016 meeting at Trump Tower with a Russian lawyer "treasonous".

Following the publication of "Fire and Fury", Rodriguez did a mock version of the cover he would have created for Wolff's book, and the image went viral.

As I wrote after Wolff's "Today" appearance, the author's methods do not directly undermine the veracity of his reporting.
