Father of another abducted girl in Kasur alleges police of non-cooperation

A Little Girl's Murder Has Sparked Protests in Pakistan and Online

Police have revealed that Zainab is the 8th child to have been raped and murdered in Kasur within the past year. But later nearly all were set free by the courts either because the victims were too scared to give evidence or were bought off, or because of lack of coordination between the various investigation and prosecution branches of the administration. "Campaigns are to be conducted in schools, colleges and public spaces to create awareness for prevention of child abuse". Over 43 percent of the survivors said they were acquainted with the criminals - and over 16 per cent said family members were perpetrators. Recent records have also shown such cases are rising. "They should not only be trained enough to recognise the bad intentions of any person but also to be open enough to discuss the matter with a reliable elder", he wrote. According to police sources, some unidentified accused brutally murdered the girl identified as 16-year-old Sajida Perveen after rape.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Mr Khan vowed to bring Zainab's killer to justice and said Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif would be personally following the case. DNA samples have also been taken from 90 possible suspects.

While in a statement, the Punjab government spokesperson said first clue of the culprit in Zainab Case was obtained.

Her funeral prayer was led by Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chief Tahir-ul-Qadri and offered by flocks of people.

The chief minister ordered that the charge-sheet for the case should be presented in court within 24 hours.

The IG assured the court that the suspect would soon be arrested.

To be sure, child abuse is not just Pakistan's heart breaking tragedy. What is missing from the discussion is the larger issue of child protection in Pakistan. At least 280 children had been abducted and assaulted over six years. A quarter of all adults report having been physically abused as children.

Whether it's India or Pakistan, there's no end to the crimes perpetuated against women and children. "Every year, there are an estimated 41,000 homicide deaths in children under 15 years of age". They have also smashed auto windows with sticks.

The country is in a state of shock, with social media flooded with messages of solidarity with Zainab's family and anger at the provincial govt of Punjab.

"We encourage children to speak up and are involved with parents and teachers".

An autopsy has confirmed that Zainab was strangled and sodomized and suggests she was raped, the medical officer who carried out the examination, Dr Quratulain Atique, told CNN.

While many are hoping action will be taken, it seems the journey seeking justice for Zainab and countless victims seems long and challenging.
