Starting tomorrow, all Prime Exclusive phones will cost $20 more than they do now.

Amazon's Prime Exclusive Program launched in 2016 with the Motorola Moto G and the BLU R1 HD, both of which had lock screen ads.

Amazon will still offer smartphones through the Prime Exclusive program with discounted prices for unlocked phones. And in perhaps even more exciting news, customers who now own a Prime Exclusive device will receive a free update over the next week that will take away lockscreen ads.

Currently, lock screen ads appear as a single item in your notification list if you've got other notifications. For those devices already out in the world, updates will start rolling out next week that remove the ads. Amazon is referring to fingerprint scanners and newer facial recognition systems.

But starting tomorrow, it's going to be a lot harder to complain since Amazon will be issuing a software update to all phones that it sells to remove those advertisements. These handsets are (as the name implies) only available to Amazon Prime subscribers, and they are offered at a discount compared to the normal pricing.

Amazon says that it's removing lockscreen ads to facilitate the use of fast unlocking technologies like fingerprint sensors and facial recognitions that have more or less made the lockscreen somewhat obsolete.

Going forward, you'll still own a phone (or buy one) that includes pre-installed Amazon apps, including the Amazon Widget, but the ads and offers won't show up on your lockscreen. The company also touts the ability to personalize your screen as a motivating factor, although many would have argued that has been important from the outset.

Prime Exclusive phones are shipped with pre-loaded ads, which could technically make them immune to the Play Store rules.

Apparently, the bloatware will remain but can be uninstalled or hidden if you don't use it.
