The Surge 2 is under development and planned for a 2019 release

Deck13's The Surge was a sleeper hit when it released past year, offering a sci-fi take on From Software's Souls formula to solid effect. Read it all below.

Publisher Focus Home Interactive and developer Deck13 have announced that The Surge 2 is now in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

The Surge 2 plans to keep numerous original features that players enjoyed the most, with hardcore combat, dynamic limb targeting and deep character progression all set to return, but this time the great formula that makes the game what it is, is set to be expanded on further still.

With this in mind, I'm pleased to hear the developer plans to launch The Surge 2 next year.

A larger post on Focus' forums teased a new backdrop for the game, this time taking place in "a sprawling, devastated city" with Deck13's "upgraded and improved engine".

Action RPG The Surge is getting a sequel

The Surge 2 builds on the game's core mechanics of challenging combat, and the limb-targeting system. Deck13 also promised "more abilities, weapons, implants, and drones".

More information on The Surge 2 will be released through Focus Home Interactive's upcoming press event with the sequel scheduled for a 2019 release.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more! Those who thought about this title will be happy to find out that there may be hope yet for fundamental improvements because the developer and publisher have now confirmed that they're working on a new title aptly called The Surge 2.
