ADLER: Down in Garcia's district, Daniel Fierro saw the assemblywoman leading the #MeToo movement in Sacramento.

Another man, a lobbyist who spoke to Politico on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals from the powerful lawmaker, said that he experienced a similar assault at a fundraising event at the capital's De Veres bar in 2017, where Garcia allegedly propositioned him and attempted to grab his crotch.

Her image was even prominently used in the December 15 issue of Time naming the "Silence Breakers" on sexual harassment as the magazine's Person of the Year. But in January - inspired by the #MeToo movement - he told his former boss, Assemblyman Ian Calderon; Calderon reported the incident to the Assembly Rules Committee, which launched an investigation, Politico reported.

She was one of almost 150 women to sign an open letter in October calling out a pervasive culture of sexual harassment at the Capitol and said she herself has been the target of groping and inappropriate remarks by people in the building. That I was pictured and added to a timeline of this reckoning.

"I didn't know I was part of the story", the assemblywoman tweeted at the time "I'm proud of this work, and proud of the company I'm in", including the popular hashtags #MeToo and #WeSaidEnough.

State Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia is being investigated by the Assembly Rules Committee over allegations, first reported by Politico, that she made inappropriate sexual advances toward another lawmaker's male aide.

In November, Garcia was one of hundreds of signatories who wrote a letter to the New York Times demanding an end to workplace harassment.

"It will allow them then to call into question so many other people who are champions of the movement", she says.

About two dozen sexual harassment allegations were made against Assembly lawmakers, staff and lobbyists in 2017 - the most within a single year since 2006 - and at least eight allegations are pending, according to documents released last week. She issued a statement saying she could not recall the previous incident but welcomed an investigation into the accusations.

"Every complaint about sexual harassment should be taken seriously and I will participate fully in any investigation that takes place", Garcia said.

"She came back and was whispering real close and I could smell the booze and see she was pretty far gone". "She looked at me for a second and said, "I've set a goal for myself to f***you".

GARCIA: I think he needs to resign, and resign immediately. In a statement, Garcia says she's certain she did not engage in the behavior she is accused of but will take an immediate and unpaid leave of absence during the investigation. "The problem is when Cristina is the one, it's for everyone to roll their eyes.and it takes away from the issue.and the credibility".
