Why the name Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday?

The origins of Mardi Gras can be traced back to medieval Europe, passing through Rome and Venice in the 17th and 18th centuries to the French House of the Bourbons, but in the US, the annual tradition originated in Mobile, the early 18th century.

The festival, which was adopted by the Christians from a Pagan festival, marks the last day before Lent when people traditionally fast for 40 days and 40 nights.

"It just bombed into a bigger party and a bigger party.and that's how St. Louis got Mardi Gras", said Dupske. This tradition includes the confession of sins. Mardi Gras is French for fat Tuesday.

They enjoyed the food and music with the coincidence in mind.

The dining team at Northside worked for weeks to bring the taste of New Orleans to WSU's dining halls in time for Mardi Gras.

Some of those changes for 2018 included a photo booth where Mardi Gras revelers could get their picture taken for a memento of the evening and the traditional Mardi Gras parade boasted two floats this year, up from one.

"Yeah, I've heard of Mardi Gras before, but I don't plan to celebrate it this year", Rodriguez said. French soldiers feasted and wore masks as part of Mardi Gras festivities in 1703 in the newly founded city of Mobile in present-day Alabama.

Rex is New Orleans' oldest parading Carnival group.

Mardi Gras Salsa: This sweet and spicy recipe combines all the colors of Mardi Gras by using foods like pineapple, avocado and red onion.

With New Orleans, being the Mardi Gras capital of the world, the first Fat Tuesday was celebrated with by having a parade beginning in 1837.

The petition also states that plastic beads are quote, "trashy" and filled with toxic chemicals, which if swallowed by a child, could be harmful.

Each student partakes in a swing dance lesson from Fred Astaire Dance Studio teachers, eats authentic creole cuisine and decorates a king cake. The cake is normally a ring of twisted cinnamon roll-style dough, but can be made in other flavors as long as the colors remain the same. The bread-like cake is braided, dusted with cinnamon and glazed with Mardi Gras colors.
