Kozhikode: A four months pregnant woman was allegedly assaulted by six people, including a CPM functionary, over a land dispute following which she had to undergo an abortion in Kozhikode, police said on Thursday.

As she started bleeding, she was rushed to the government MCH where she was under treatment for a week.

The woman had reportedly called the police 15 minutes before the attack and asked for help.On February 2, the family filed a complaint about the assault on the woman.The family has alleged pressure and intimidation to withdraw the case. "One person was registered after I complained to the Kodanjery and Thamarassery police". Thampy Thettalil, CPM's Kallantharamedu branch secretary, Joy aka Kuttan, Saithalavi, Renjith Vadakkedathu, Benoy Keezhakath and Sarasamma aka Kuttyamma are the arrested.

On Wednesday, the family held a sit-in protest outside the police station demanding the arrest of all the accused in the case.

The woman also said that when she tried calling the police, they refused to come, citing they do not have vehicle.

According to the woman, they threatened to cut her husband's legs. According to details by ANI, seven pro-Left activists have been arrested, including a local leader of the state's ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM). The police had earlier arrested Prajeesh, a neighbour of the woman, in connection with the incident.
