First COBRA KAI Teaser Hints At a KARATE KID Rematch

Karate Kid

It looks like we may have our chance to find out, judging from the first teaser below for Cobra Kai.

During The Karate Kid's climax, Johnny clearly didn't want to follow his sensei's command to sweep Daniel's injured leg. Johnny knew it was wrong, but he did it anyway. While there were three direct sequels to the film, plus a remake in 2010 and an animated series, the original rivalry from the first movie between new kid Daniel LaRusso and school bully Johnny Lawrence has not been revisited before. In the clip, Johnny is looking to bring old and new life into his old stomping grounds dojo Cobra Kai. Did you ever believe you would see Daniel and Johnny facing off again after all these years? And we just have to ask which are you, Team Daniel or Team Johnny?

Daniel and Johnny are nursing old wounds with the ferocity only middle-aged men with too much time on their hands can foster.

Courtney Henggeler (Mom) will play Daniel's wife and business partner, Amanda, while Mary Mouser (Freakish) plays their firecracker daughter, Samantha. Maybe Daniel's seemingly flawless life as a vehicle salesman with a family isn't as ideal as it seems.

Josh Heald (Hot Tub Time Machine) wrote Cobra Kai with Harold & Kumar franchise creators Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg and they're all executive producing the series with Susan Ekins, Will Smith, James Lassiter, and Caleeb Pinkett. "It's next generation Karate Kid".

Cobra Kai will see Xolo Maridueña (Parenthood) as Miguel Diaz, a victim of high school bullies who's taken under Johnny's wing; Tanner Buchanan (Designated Survivor) as Johnny's son, Robby Keene, who's determined to prove himself to be nothing like his father; and guest-star Ed Asner as Johnny's old-school stepfather, Sid Weinberg.
