"You realize over time that you do have to take more responsibility for your platform, you have to be hands on, you have to make judgments", Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky said in an interview with The Associated Press.

As part of loyalty programme, Airbnb will launch Airbnb Plus, which will recognise and verify superhosts and superguests.

Company said that its hosts have earned over $41 billion over the last 10 years, while it has served guests over 300 million times. The properties will be inspected and verified by a local photographer sent by the company before they're accepted.

Airbnb also rolled out the new Airbnb Plus tier.

A news release from the home-rental organization says its new Airbnb Plus program vets homes offered in the tier with a checklist of more than 100 factors, including cleanliness, design and comfort.

"Every Airbnb Plus home is one-of-a-kind, thoughtfully designed, and equipped with a standard set of amenities - whether you're in a private room or have the entire place to yourself", reads the company's website for Airbnb Plus. "Those are indisputable facts, if you just type in "Hilton", look at their stock, look at Marriott, they're all thriving", he told i in September past year.

The company confirmed it had partnered with property developer Newgard Development Group to build a branded rental complex in Kissimmee, Florida in October 2017, which owners can let out via Airbnb for up to 180 days a year.

Plus offers the cream of the crop when it comes to what Airbnb has on offer. Now, people will get to choose from another four categories: vacation homes, unique spaces (or unconventional homes like domes, igloos, and tree-houses), bed and breakfasts, and boutique homes.

Among its goals: host more than a billion guests by 2028.

Airbnb Plus is just one of several new features announced today. Launching today are Airbnb for Family and Airbnb for Work with Collections for Social stays, Weddings, Honeymoons, Group getaways and Dinner parties coming later this year.

The Airbnb Host Community is broad and diverse with more than 4.5 million places to stay around the world.

Founders Brian and Joe Gebbia started the company when they rented out three airbeds in their San Francisco apartment - hence the company's name, Airbnb.

Airbnb is also adding two new high-end tiers: Airbnb Plus and "Beyond by Airbnb".

The program will initially cover about 2,000 properties in 13 cities - Austin, Texas; Barcelona, Spain; Cape Town, South Africa; Chicago; Los Angeles; London; Melbourne, Australia; Milan; Rome; San Francisco; Shanghai, Sydney and Toronto. This will give greater choice of accommodation options to guests, provide greater transparency over the types of accommodation available, and help hosts better showcase what's unique about them to better match with guests' preferences.

To combat that, Airbnb is launching Collections, to "connect every guest to their flawless home and meet the needs of such a diverse range of travelers". It could make Airbnb more of a hub for discovery for people looking to travel overseas with customized experiences and a more robust array of options for homes.

By the end of the year, 75,000 homes in 50 cities worldwide are expected to be listed on Airbnb Plus, Chesky said. Hosts in this tier would benefit from top placement, in-home services such as design consultation and expert photography, and premium support.

Airbnb continues to dive deeper into the travel business with offerings that focus on experiences.
