Storm system brings flooding, freezing rain, snow to Midwest

Rain, snow making travel difficult, flooding to the south

National Weather Service meteorologist Ryan Barnes says temperatures will stay below freezing tonight and travel will remain unsafe.

A winter weather advisory was issued from 6 p.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

A trough of low pressure is forecast to approach from the southwest to spread light snow or ice pellets across P.E.I. We just continue to have these slider type systems move in from the north one after another, giving the valley and sometimes the Sierra too, a chance for snow.

"Further to the north, it looks like we could see some sleet mix in with the freezing rain and that would have a tendency to reduce the overall ice accumulation on surfaces", Lindley said. Temperatures stay mild in the 50's and 60's both Friday and Saturday, no ice is expected.

Meteorologist Mark Larson says there's another round of wintry weather on the way to Kansas tonight and into Thursday but it should not create as many problems as Tuesday's storm. As ground temperatures fall to the freezing mark, roads could become slick.

More rain will develop Friday and again on Saturday. Another round of light freezing rain/ sleet will pass late this afternoon/ evening.

Rain should be primarily a morning threat to end the workweek, perhaps some areas lingering into the very early afternoon before eventually it comes to an end.

We'll have a cloudy, cool Thursday afternoon. For tonight, mostly cloudy, with a low around 23-degrees. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. East wind around 6 miles per hour.

EXTENDED: Winds will shift ot the south and warmer air will start to move in early Thursday.

Sun: High: 57 Low: 29 Mostly sunny.
