'Farmers loan will be waived after the election': Amit Shah

The party chiefs of both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party - Rahul Gandhi and Amit Shah - campaigned in Karnataka on Sunday. I could inform you with assurance that after the Narendra Modi federal government involved power, not also a solitary paisa of vehicle loan taken by any type of solitary manufacturer has actually been forgoed. "He lied to us and said that the Centre had not waived money or NPAs for industrialists, but we are aware of the truth. Let anyone spread misinformation how much ever they want, the government is not imposing any income tax on farmers", he said. Gandhi said he wanted to give an assurance to women and tell them that wherever there the congress party is, it would work more and more towards taking them forward. "We have come before you with an intention to form a pro-farmer government under the leadership of Yeddyurappa in Karnataka also", Shah said, adding the BJP won the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and several state elections after that only because of support from farmers. When BJP national joint secretary (organisation) B L Santosh translated it to Kannada, the crowd roared, "No!" During his speech, Gandhi repeatedly quoted 12th century social reformer Basaveshwara from Karnataka, revered by the dominant Lingayat/Veerashiva community which is predominantly present in northern parts of the state, to attack Modi.

Rahul is on a three-day visit to Karnataka, where assembly polls are expected to be held in April-May this year. "Then, he should explain how a diamond trader (Nirav Modi) could siphon off Rs 22,000 crore from a public sector bank without his knowledge", Gandhi said at a public rally here in Karnataka's Bagalkot district.

He then applauded state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for waving off loans worth "Rs 80 billion".

The BJP chief also assured the farmer that the defunct sugar mill in Bidar would be started again, once the BJP government comes in the state.

Shah scored brownie points by visiting the family of a farmer who committed suicide in Mangalgi village.

Another point that Shah made, likening the Siddaramaiah government to the erstwhile Nizam of Hyderabad who ruled this region upto 1948, a full year after Indian independence, got cheers from the crowd.
