Is BlackBerry's 'Ghost' with narrow bezels ready to haunt India?

BlackBerry GHOST Leaks! And It Looks Pretty Awesome

BlackBerry GHOST Leaks! And It Looks Pretty Awesome

Unfortunately, the device will only be available in India and won't actually be made by Blackberry nor TCL. The company is all set to jump in the race of bezel-less screens and launch BlackBerry Ghost.

BlackBerry executives made the rather startling declaration in an interview with The Verge when Francois Mahieu and Alain Lejeune from BlackBerry and TCL respectively said that a year ago was a success for them. TCL is mostly known for making budget TVs and Alcatel smartphones.

The render was posted on Twitter by famed leakster @evleaks who revealed that this device, the BlackBerry Ghost, is a bezel-less premium Android smartphone from Optiemus that's "coming soon to India".

Mahieu also spoke to CNET recently, saying that the next goal would be to capture at least three percent of the premium smartphone market with its own offering, which would translate to about 10 million units sold each year. So what are the specs for the BlackBerry Ghost?

According to a Tweet by known tipster Evan Blass, BlackBerry is working on a new smartphone codenamed as "Ghost". This means there could be 52 shortcuts to launch different applications. What is also striking is the omission of a keyboard, which is generally a characteristic feature in BlackBerry phones. IDC's Francisco Jeronimo says that about 850,000 units of the KeyOne were shipped a year ago. Interestingly, BlackBerry Ghost will be an Indian market exclusive device. However, it really is hard to see how small the bezels are on this device. At the top, one can see a front-facing camera along with earpiece, while on the left, there is a SIM slot. Nokia took its time, but eventually joined the thin-bezel design party at MWC 2018 (Mobile World Congress). The image shows a sleek handset with a metal frame and curved edges.
