10 Maoists killed in encounter with police in Chhattisgarh

Security forces suspect top Maoist leaders must be among those dead who are yet to be identified. As per reports, the encounter between the Maoists and the Police Greyhounds began in the early hours of the day at Tadapalagutta and Pujari Kanker Forest areas.

Police suspect there could be senior members among the Maoists killed.

The gunfight broke out inside the forest area on the border dividing states of Telangana and Chhattisgarh. The Joint operation is a collective effort of Telangana and Chattisgarh police took place around 6:30 AM this morning. While the team asked them to surrender, the Maoists opened fire instead.

A constable of commando force Greyhounds of Telangana Police succumbed to injuries after an encounter with the Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district. We could bring the body of the martyred Greyhounds constable Sushil Kumar and two Maoists in the chopper that had been originally dispatched to airlift injured Sushil to hospital. The bodies of Maoists were also shifted to the town for autopsy.

The group demanded a post-mortem of the Maoists in the presence of the judiciary in either Gandhi Hospital here or MGM Hospital in Warangal.

Five guns, including one AK-47 rifle, a scanner, a laptop and Rs 41,000 cash were recovered from the scene. Police said many had crossed over from neighbouring Chhattisgarh and were indulging in extortion and other illegal activities.

While speaking with India Today, a top state intelligence officer also confirmed the encounter and said the party had first recovered 10 bodies of red rebels and further search operations were on.
