Wilberg, who spent nine years working for Google and YouTube, says the company set quotas for hiring minorities, and that he was sacked because he refused to reject white and Asian male job candidates. Wilberg also claims that recruiters were told to "purge entirely" applications that didn't meet the categories, the Journal reported.

Arne Wilberg worked at Google and YouTube as a recruiter, contractor, and full-time employee for almost a decade. The paper notes that 69% of Google's employees are men, while 91% of the company's workforce is white or Asian-a number that's stayed relatively the same for the past three years.

Sources with knowledge of YouTube and Google's hiring practices "corroborated some of the lawsuit's allegations, including the hiring freeze of white and Asian technical employees, and YouTube's use of quotas", according to the Journal.

Google is reportedly being sued by a former recruiter who claims he was dismissed for not rejecting white and Asian male job applicants.

Recruitment specialist Arne Wilberg, an employee at Google and its YouTube unit for nine years as a contractor and employee, filed a lawsuit in California, according to Bloomberg.

In his lawsuit, Wilberg, 40, also claims Google discriminated against him personally, firing him in November 2017 for his race and sex as a result of his complaints over the company's policies.

Wilberg said his manager sent an email to his team past year, telling them to only accept candidates from "historically underrepresented groups" for a particular job opening. When Lee filed a complaint with H.R.at the company's urging, she said that Google declined to investigate.

Google is facing diverse diversity lawsuits. The suit claims that one Google recruiter complained that managers spoke about black people as if they were objects. According to his lawsuit filed last month in San Mateo County, Google set hiring quotas and, at one point in 2017, explicitly informed recruiters to strictly hire "diverse" candidates.

"We have a clear policy to hire candidates based on their merit, not their identity", a representative from Google told the Journal in a statement. When Wilberg did not adhere to those rules, his performance reviews suffered, he alleges.

Indeed, Wilberg's claim of discrimination against majority groups mimics the culture war around diversity being waged inside Google, where employees advocating for increased diversity have been reprimanded for offending white men.

Although Google initially fought not to disclose the demographic makeup of its workforce, the company was the first big company in Silicon Valley to release an annual diversity report, which is now common practice among tech firms.

Finally, a Department of Labor official has also accused Google of practicing "systemic" discrimination against female employees.
