How Will Celebrities React to Ryan Seacrest on the Oscars Red Carpet?

Kelly Ripa Reportedly Livid Over Ryan Seacrest Scandal: They 'Oversell Their Friendship'

According to THR, the network wants to prevent the airing of any potential backlash against Ryan amid sexual misconduct claims.

In November of a year ago, Hardy sent a legal letter to the higher ups at the E! network, letting the company know of Seacrest's alleged crimes towards her. And yet, the recent #MeToo movement and Time's Up initiative have created a "better safe than sorry" attitude toward allegations of sexual assault.

"Oscars Opening Ceremony: Live From the Red Carpet": The official ABC red carpet coverage includes Michael Strahan, Wendi McLendon Covey, Sara Haines and others interviewing nominees, presenters and performers.

With sexual harassment allegations hanging over the head of E!'s go-to Oscars red carpet host Ryan Seacrest, questions have been raised regarding the appropriateness of having him work this year's Academy Awards. Ryan has received additional support from ABC, with whom he has contracts for Live With Kelly & Ryan as well as the upcoming American Idol reboot.

Reactions to this news about Seacrest have been mixed: Kelly Ripa defended Seacrest on their show. And I just want you to know, you are a privilege to work with and I adore you. I don't know, that is where this stuff gets tricky'.

At the Monday premiere for "A Wrinkle in Time", actress Bellamy Young told a journalist Seacrest should "step aside" from hosting the Oscars red carpet, but then later apologized, saying in part "he has been exonerated from the allegations I was told about on the carpet, so my opinion is different now". But there's another hurdle: it seems some celebrities may end up avoiding interviews with him.

Actress Jennifer Lawrence, who will be on the red carpet, was non-committal when asked about it by shock jock Howard Stern recently.

"I feel like we should be celebrating the fact that people are finally paying attention to what we've been talking about for decades", Burke said.

"This person who has accused me of terrible things tried to buy her silence by asking for money on multiple occasions - I refused", Seacrest said in a statement this week.

The network's extensive coverage begins at 1:00pm ET/10:00am PT with "Countdown to the Red Carpet: The 2018 Academy Awards".
