BJP Congress-led Opposition set to slug it out in Parliament over PNB scam

Talking to News18, leader of the opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge said, "We will raise the Bank scam issue in Parliament".

Following the ruckus inside the parliament by the opposition parties, Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 12 p.m. and Rajya Sabha till 2 p.m.

Both the Houses of Parliament will meet after a month-long recess in the session. The Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, 2018 approved by Cabinet would help in laying down measures to deter economic offenders from evading the process of law, by remaining outside the jurisdiction of Indian courts.

A spokesperson from Congress, Manish Tewari commented that they will not let the issue fade until BJP government produces a satisfying answer. Trinamul Congress members also highlighted the PNB fraud.

The issue of Karti Chidambaram's arrest in the INX Media case is also a shot in the arm for the government ahead of the session.

Mr Azad said that the government and the Prime Minister had "failed" and banks are without money while likes of Nirav Modi were absconding.

The ruling party will rake up scams taking place during the Congress times and pin it down, the party sources said.

In the Lok Sabha, it intends to bring ' The Specific Relief (Amendment) Bill, 2017", "The Payment of Gratuity (Amendment) Bill, 2017", and "The Dentists (Amendment) Bill, 2017'.

The passage of the OBC bill, which envisages constitutional status for the OBC commission, is another item on the government's agenda.

In the Rajya Sabha, the government has listed The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2017, and The State Banks (Repeal and Amendment) Bill, 2017, for the first day of the session.

No Left members were present in the House in the first hour.Prime Minister Narendra Modi was received in the House by thumping of desks by Bharatiya Janata Party members as he is being chiefly credited for the party's recent electoral victories in the three northeastern states, specially the Left-ruled Tripura. "The banking sector is in a deep crisis and its credibility is under stake", he told PTI. The Congress party has accused the BJP of doing "vendetta politics" and deviating the focus from bank fraud. "We will coordinate with other opposition parties to expose this BJP government that has not delivered on their promises".

O'Brien also claimed that the BJP had gone "overboard" with its victory in Tripura. After the results, the BJP president Amit Shah had said that the party's next target was the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government in Bengal and the CPM-led government in Kerala.
