Stone Distances Himself from Former Trump Aide Nunberg's 'Car Crash'

The subpoena from Special Counsel Robert Mueller requests documents from 10 people including President Trump

"Screw that. Why do I have to go?" he told CNN.

In his first television interview, with MSNBC's Katy Tur, Nunberg said that Mueller's document request was "ridiculous" and that he didn't want to spend 80 hours digging through his emails.

When asked by Tur whether he believes Mueller's investigators in the Russian Federation probe have something on the president, Nunberg said: "I think they may".

But after all that, Nunberg told AP News he'd probably cooperate with Mueller's investigation after all - he just wishes the special counsel would narrow the scope of his subpoena.

Sam Nunberg first worked for one of Mr Trump's businesses and later helped advise Mr Trump's presidential campaign, but he was sacked in August 2015 amid reports that he posted racially charged messages on Facebook.

In the process, Nunberg, who Trump fired in 2015, also made a series of jaw-dropping - and unsubstantiated - claims against Trump and those in his orbit.

Schiff argued that Nunberg is one of a number of witnesses the committee still needs to interview.

Should the former aide refuse to testify before a grand jury, Mueller could seek an order from the court that he comply with the subpoena. "Do you think I'm going to jail?" he asked the room as MSNBC host Ari Melber closed out the segment.

Nunberg consistently said he was willing to risk arrest to skip a scheduled appearance before a grand jury.

Nunberg said he had already spoken with investigators for five-and-a- half hours last month and he wasn't going back in.

Among other comments Monday, Nunberg suggested that Trump may have known beforehand about the June 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort and a Russian lawyer.

Nunberg told CNN that Trump's long-time bodyguard Keith Schiller told him that when Trump visited Moscow for the 2013 Miss Universe pageant, pop star and Russian oligarch Emin Agalarov offered to send women to Trump's hotel room.

At the wheel: "former Trump campaign aide Sam Nunberg".

Despite that, Nunberg told MSNBC he got the impression from his interview that they had evidence implicating Trump.

"I'm happy if the scope changes", he said. "Putin is too smart to collude with Donald Trump". Nunberg denied drinking, saying he'd only taken some anti-depressants. "I think that Carter Page is a weird dude - I don't think he should have been involved in that campaign", he said.

"I got very aggravated", Nunberg said, explaining why he felt compelled to go on a TV blitz on CNN, MSNBC and a local NY station to share his frustrations.

"I think it would be really, really amusing if they wanted to arrest me", he said.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders dismissed Mr Nunberg's comments.

"I believe the president remains in his crosshair", he said.
