It turned Google Maps into a Pac-Man screen a year ago, while the position marker also became a TIE Fighter to commemorate the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015. Once it does, you can tap it to turn your navigation arrow into Mario for the remainder of the event. It's perfectly simple: someone way back in the dusty ruins of time realized that "Mar 10" looks a little bit like "Mario" on paper, and thus that kinda made it Mario's unofficial birthday.

Beginning Saturday, all Google Maps users that update their app will be able to tap the iconic question mark block from the Super Mario franchise and select to navigate the app as Mario.

Mario isn't the first video game character to become a marker in the app.

There's no way to play Mario Kart in real life, but you can at least feel like it's a proper thing as Mario joins forces with Google Maps this week (but please be safe, folks). Well, Google is apparently getting in on the Mario love, as it is bringing the plumber to its Maps service for a limited time.

It's in honor of March 10th, or "Mario Day." . "Just do not forget to practice safe driving on the road-we don't encourage throwing bananas or red shells at other drivers in real life".

It appears that the Mario Day Easter egg has already begun to roll out to everyone, so expect to see it on your app soon.

"Mario Time" will be available all week, and it's rolling out to all users globally starting today.
