On Friday, the Browns pulled off deals with the Miami Dolphins for wide receiver Jarvis Landry, the Buffalo Bills for quarterback Tyrod Taylor and the Green Bay Packers for cornerback Damarious Randall.

The New England Patriots were able to strengthen their front seven recently with the acquisition of Danny Shelton from the Cleveland Browns.

This trade marks the fourth that Browns general manager John Dorsey has made in the last 16 hours.

This opens up some options for the Browns in free agency, and some possible replacement nose tackles as well as building with their draft picks from last season.

In New England, which runs a multiple defense that often asks defensive linemen to two-gap and play the run first, Shelton's skill set should fit well.

The Patriots are also acquiring the Browns' 2018 fifth-round pick and will send their 2019 third-round pick to Cleveland, sources told ESPN. ESPN reporter Adam Schefter summarized the flurry of comings and goings in a tweet Saturday following the Shelton deal.

The Patriots will take on Shelton's $2 million salary in 2018 and have to decide if they will pick up his 2019 option worth $7 million. At 6-foot-2, 335 pounds, he ran a 5.64-second 40-yard dash, 7.99-second 3-cone, 4.65-second short shuttle, 30.5-inch vertical leap and 7-foot, 11-inch broad jump with 34 bench press reps at the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine. While there is still some work to do on the defensive side of the ball, getting Shelton is certainly a good start. At best, the Patriots just added a full-time starter. Wilson said Mathieu would be a flawless fit in New England, as he is also capable of playing cornerback and inside linebacker in sub-packages.
