Richard Sherman To Meet With 49ers On Saturday

2018 Colts Possible Free Agent Targets: Cornerback Richard Sherman

Sherman told ESPN's Josina Anderson that he has interest from many teams, including the Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers.

Sherman, taken in the fifth round out of Stanford in 2011, became a starter six games into his rookie season and was rarely off the field for the Seahawks until suffering a torn Achilles tendon against Arizona on November 9, teaming with free safety Earl Thomas and strong safety Kam Chancellor to form the core of a secondary that would soon become known as the Legion of Boom and within two years helped lead the Seahawks to their only Super Bowl.

A deal with the 49ers is no certainty, as Sherman has plenty of other options.

His first stop is Santa Clara, Calif., and Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Saturday that it could very well be his only visit with the expectation the 49ers are ready to write a check if Sherman's surgically repaired Achilles passes inspection. For one, he would get to play the Seahawks twice a year. They also play a similar defensive scheme to Seattle under DC Robert Saleh and will get to match up against Sherman's former team twice a year. It's hard to say at this point what the Seahawks team will look like next year, though it's worth pointing out that Seattle still has Russell Wilson, and a franchise quarterback is a great starting point for any National Football League team looking to rebuild.

"I want to go to a contender", Sherman said Friday on KIRO radio in Seattle. If the 49ers sign Sherman, it's the strongest sign yet that the 49ers-Seahawks rivalry is back in a big way.

According to somebody who was at the restaurant, Shanahan dined with Sherman and his wife at Nick's Next Door restaurant in Los Gatos tonight.

After that Sherman-led loss to the Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game, the 49ers went into steep decline.

Of course, the 49ers are only going to sign Sherman if they're satisfied with his health and there's no guarantee that's going to happen.
