Richard Sherman gets trolled by John Lynch, still signs with 49ers

Sherman didn't dispute that aspect of the 49ers' appeal.

"Kyle is one of the most creative and innovative offensive minds in football - he and (Rams coach) Sean McVay, and I told him as much", Sherman said.

Though they're not a finished product yet, San Francisco are set up to fight for the playoffs when they carry over a five-game winning streak into next season.

"That had a huge part of it", Sherman said of Garoppolo's presence with the Niners.

"I definitely enjoyed the city of Seattle and I enjoyed the fans there and have tremendous love and appreciation for the years I've spent there and love and respect that they've given me over the years", Sherman said of his time in the Emerald City.

"‏Welcome back to the Bay and to Santa Clara @RSherman_25!"

"Instead of getting upset with me for going to a new team how about you get upset with the people who forced me to go". Shead is expected to visit Detroit later this week but he could also re-sign with the Seahawks at any time now that he has been released.

Sherman acted as his own agent, as he's done throughout his career. And while Sherman was listening to offers from other teams, he knew it was likely now or never to get the deal he wanted from San Francisco. "It's 75 degrees and sunny outside, we've got [Garoppolo] - who wouldn't want to be here?"

However, Huard also questioned whether the Seahawks' unique culture under Pete Carroll, while initially successful, ultimately led to a rift between Sherman and the organization. For 2019, his base salary would jump another $1 million if he were to make the upcoming Pro Bowl.

But it didn't take Richard Sherman long to find a new team. The maximum Sherman can earn if he plays at a high level is $26.1 million. That leaves 14 other games, however, for him to make a deeper impact for a 49ers franchise he's tormented as their hated rival since 2011.

The 49ers signed Sherman and didn't give up much on cap space either.

While a poor connection with background noise garbled his media conference call, Sherman voiced no frustration.

And as gloom settled over Levi's, Sherman and Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson sat at midfield with NBC's Michele Tafoya and happily chomped on turkey drumsticks.

Sherman's contract is very low-risk for the 49ers. No player with 300-plus targets has allowed a lower completion percentage (47.4) or passer rating (50.9) over the span either. They had fallen off the face of the earth with the departure of Jim Harbaugh and the retirement/departure of their core players. And apparently defensive coordinator Robert Saleh - who worked alongside Sherman in Seattle before 2014 - also made an appearance at the dinner.

As things stand, the 49ers have a chance to benefit by signing a contract that at best is a bit over market this year.
