Google Android Wear to become Wear OS later this year

This could be part of a push to broaden the appeal of its products and services, rather than having them tied specifically to the Android system (both Android Wear devices and Google Pay work with iOS products, though support for the former isn't great).

The Android Wear ecosystem has been in a precarious state as of late.

Amongst other changes, we will see a colorful "G" logo on the left and the search icon will no longer be highlighted in a blue square. The company might do away with the Android Wear moniker in favor of "Wear OS". In addition, the search giant will also give Wear OS a new logo that resembles that of the Google Assistant. In the case of Android Wear, you'll be notified that there's a watch nearby that can be paired with your phone. Recently, a Redditor H3x0n revealed that Android Wear will soon be officially renamed as WearOS, and will also feature a distinctive W logo instead of the original watch face one.

The Android Wear devices and the operating system has not been getting a lot of love from the company but it seems that Android Wear is going to get a new face and branding as there are hints that Google will be rebranding the OS. As noted by Android Headlines, there were more references to Wear OS in the beta APK, including referring to it as the "wearable service name", suggesting that a name change is incoming. The steps emerge as a new development towards releasing Fuchsia, forthcoming Android OS. However, thanks to lackluster hardware that was released to debut Android Wear 2.0, the platform's kind of been in a rut for over a year now. Therefore, the introduced changes to Android Wear make it far more palatable option for Apple fanboys.
