Don't Be Surprised If The NFL Is Involved With Alliance Of America

Jared Allen, Troy Polamalu Bill Polian Charlie Ebersol JM Mc Kay and ex Giant Justin Tuck announce the creation of a new spring football league set to begin play in 2019

Though Ebersol said they are not reinventing football, there will be changes made to the game.

Among the planned innovations are safety-focused rules including the elimination of kickoffs and onside kicks.

The league already has partnered with CBS, which will show a handful of games on its main broadcast network and others on its cable sports channel. "How many Kurt Warners are in grocery stores somewhere waiting to be discovered?" During a live Q&A, Vince McMahon stated that he would remain "hands-off" in regards to the day-to-day running of things, and admitted that no broadcast plans were now in place and that the teams and cities in which they play were yet to be decided.

Former NFL players are reported to be in talks to join the league, though no cities have officially been unveiled yet in regards to teams. Billed as "a shift in the way we approach professional sports", the eight-team league is going for a fan-friendly vibe with free streaming of games, integrated fantasy football elements and greater interactivity. After scoring a touchdown, a team must attempt a two-point conversion, with the ball being snapped at the 2-yard line.

"Fifty-nine million people play fantasy and 20 million people play only fantasy football", he said. It's pretty hard to beat that level of experience just from how many combined seasons those men have played in the NFL.

Perhaps most intriguingly of all, Ebersol says the games will have 60 percent fewer commercials than National Football League games, and there will be no TV timeouts.

Like McMahon, Ebersol said the success of the league will live and die with good football, something that he thinks is achievable. This is the big unknown.

Former NFL linebacker Jared Allen is an investor and will also work with players.

For about 50 years there hasn't been one successful second football league, and now two will try to make it. That will surely give them an advantage when the league kicks off in the spring of 2019. And it's more on the XFL to seek out a merger because at this point, they seem to be behind on every step despite announcing their league first. Ebersol: "For me, if I was going to do this, I was always going to do it with the very best football experts". As a result, the Alliance will get a one-year head start (at least) on the XFL in the race to compete with the NFL.

The Alliance will introduce several rule changes created to enhance excitement, increase the safety and accelerate the pace and tempo of games, while maintaining the integrity of the sport that millions of people around the world love. Maybe that also means we can see ads during National Football League broadcasts but I doubt that.

Starting in 2019, that will no longer be the case as another league plans to get things rolling and rival what the XFL is trying to do.

I do have one suggestion to those at the Alliance of American Football and that is to do something about shortening that name.
