Leonard Hamilton Dismisses Question About Fouling at End of Game vs. MI

The decision to not foul was a real head-scratcher to many, as Michigan's free throw woes have been well documented.

Florida State was knocked out of the NCAA Tournament with a 58-54 loss to MI in the Elite Eight.

Hamilton was not happy about the question.

Hamilton could have handled the moment a lot better; Jacobson, on the other hand, could not have handled it any better than she has. Jacobson reworded her question, but Hamilton cut her off.

Jacobson asked Hamilton about his decision to not foul after the game and he responded, "the game was over".

Jacobson clarified that she meant the decision not to foul.

Hamilton said he was "impacted by" the "intense rush of emotions in our locker room after the game".

The interview followed on the heels of a series of freakish coaching decisions by Hamilton over the final 90 seconds - including fouling twice while trailing by three, and then opting to let the final 13 seconds run off the clock with his team only trailing by four. "What were we down?"

Jacobson: "You didn't think your guys could get back in it, put them on the line if they miss those shots".

"I have been a head basketball coach for a long time and this group represented the very best college athletics has to offer in their connectedness, selflessness and love for one another", Hamilton said in the statement. He stayed, however, and turned back toward Jacobson.

Hamilton told Jacobson the question didn't make sense and the game was over, then almost walked away from the interview before stepping back toward the microphone. Hamilton didn't answer and just looked at Jacobson, who finally got something out of the coach when she asked: "It didn't come down to that in your mind?" He praised Michigan's elite defense and his team's grit during a late-game rally.

"Coach Hamilton spoke to me minutes after an emotional @FSUHoops loss". Hamilton responded rhetorically. "The game was over".

We still do not really know why Florida State didn't foul down by 4 points with 10 seconds to go.
