Dave Gettleman Talks Odell Beckham Jr

Per Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.tv, Gettleman said the Giants need to focus on "eliminating internal and external distractions" but added he was "not going there" when asked if he wanted Beckham to remain on the team.

Beckham, of course, did not do himself any favors by being recorded in a viral video holding what appeared to be a brown cigarette while he was in bed with an aspiring French model who had a credit card and a plate with lines of a white substance on it.

The Los Angeles Rams are reportedly getting extremely aggressive about a potential Odell Beckham trade, making the No. 23 overall pick available to the New York Giants.

This comes a day after co-owner John Mara said he could not rule out the possibility of trading Beckham, adding "I wouldn't say anyone is untouchable" and that "I'm exhausted of answering questions about Odell's behavior". Mara would not discuss any contract talks regarding Beckham, who is heading into the final year of his rookie contract. The Rams' signing of star defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh a day earlier already seemed to get pushed to the background as Beckham chatter increased.

"All reports are he will be ready to go as we get going", Shurmur said (h/t Rob Maadi, Associated Press).

The Giants, in April, made a decision to pick up the fifth-year option in Beckham's rookie contract for 2018 (worth approximately $8.5 million), but he would be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2018 season.

"The important thing with quarterbacks is they come in all shapes and sizes, all skill levels, on all parts of the spectrum in terms of their experience in the league", Shurmur said.

"The Daily News also has learned that the Giants' asking price in a prospective Beckham trade is starting at a first-round pick plus". "I do know this, I've seen Eli in the building nearly every day here in the offseason, he's the fittest, healthiest 37-year-old I've been around". In his first three seasons, he had 288 receptions for 4,122 yards and 35 touchdowns.

"We always want weapons", Shurmur said. "And we want guys that understand what it is to be a good teammate".
