New Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden cut Marquette King today and according to one writer, it was a move meant to send a "message".

But in what could amount to a huge break for the Giants and general manager Dave Gettleman, the Oakland Raiders shockingly announced the release of one-time All-Pro punter Marquette King on Friday.

In addition to his experience as a punter, King's unique skill set could give Fipp yet another weapon to keep opposing teams guessing.

For his career, he's punted the ball 426 times, averaged 46.8 yards per punt, and 156 of his punts have landed inside the 20-yard line.

King signed a five-year contract worth $16.5 million in 2016, but it included an out with only $150,000 in dead cap before the 2018 season. King's 47.4 yards per punt was sixth in the National Football League last season among regular punters, and his 42.7-yard net average was third among regular punters.

In 9 games a year ago, Hall made one start and finished the year with 15 tackles and 1 pass defensed. He is a two-time Pro Bowl selection, most recently for the Raiders in 2016.

Based on his play over the past few years, if the Raiders didn't want him, it's actually somewhat shocking that they didn't try to trade King for a low draft pick.

The Raiders also released tight end Clive Walford and re-signed safety Reggie Nelson. He's tallied 70 receptions for 768 yards and six touchdowns over the past three seasons.
