A German court ruled former Catalan separatist leader Carles Puigdemont will not face extradition to Spain over rebellion charges. The High Administrative Court of Schleswig-Holstein granted bail to Puildemont for $ 75,000 euros, considering that the risk of escape prevails but in a lesser degree, after ruling out the crime of rebellion.

Puigdemont was convicted in multiple cases of corruption, conducting an unsanctioned independence referendum and to rebel against the rebellious against the ruling government.

Puigdemont was detained in Germany on a Spanish arrest warrant as he attempted to drive on March 25 from Finland to Belgium, where he now resides.

Proceedings to decide whether to extradite him on corruption charges could continue, it said.

The Spanish government said it respected the decision of the German court.

"The actions for which the subject is being prosecuted would not be criminal under German law", the court spokeswoman said.

This afternoon, the German court said his extradition was possible on the basis of the corruption charges - but not on the more serious charge of rebellion.

Puigdemont's German lawyer said the separatist politician was arranging the transfer of the bail money to Germany.

Mr Puigdemont entered Germany on his way back from Finland to Belgium, where he had been living in self-imposed exile.

Spanish Justice Minister Rafael Catala said Madrid "respected" the German court's decision to rule out the rebellion charge from the extradition request, but conceded that "some judicial decisions please us; others less so".

Trapero was hailed in Catalonia as a local hero for the handling of deadly extremist attacks in and near Barcelona last summer.

Two more members of the regional police and an official with the regional interior department were also indicted.

He then came under pressure when central authorities urged the regional police to stop the October 1 referendum banned by Spanish courts.
