Washington to impose sanctions against at least 6 Russian oligarchs

In addition to questioning the Russians, Mueller's team has also searched the electronic devices of at least one of the oligarchs.

Special counsel Robert Mueller told President Trump's attorneys last month that the president remains under investigation but is not now a criminal target, multiple sources familiar with the discussion confirmed to ABC News.

According to Reuters' sources, Washington plans to introduce sanctions against Russian oligarchs this week over alleged election meddling. It was unclear if he had his devices scanned.

The U.S. will reportedly lay out new sanctions against Russian oligarchs this week as part of the Trump administration's response to Moscow's efforts to interfere in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Mueller is investigating whether Nader, a Lebanese-American businessman, funneled money from the Emirates to Trump's campaign, as well as his contacts with the president's advisers and ties to Russian Federation.

White House lawyer Ty Cobb also declined to comment, saying the president's legal team does not discuss conversations with the special counsel. The stop-and-frisk tactic is created to catch subjects off guard, robbing them of the chance to wipe their devices, and seems to be a favorite of Mueller's: former Trump foreign-policy adviser George Papadopoulos, and George Nader-an adviser to Emirati Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan who attended a secret Seychelles meeting between Blackwater founder Erik Prince and a Russian investor days before the inauguration-were both stopped at Dulles International Airport by the F.B.I., and both are now cooperating with the Mueller investigation.

"We're not aware of this", Cobb told the Daily News Wednesday afternoon.

Mueller reportedly stopped two Russians when they traveled to the USA and searched one's electronic devices.

Instead, Mueller's investigators are looking into whether Russians might have invested in companies or think thanks that in turn donated to Trump's campaign. His inauguration committee raised a record-breaking $106.8 million, and some government watchdog groups have questioned where that money came from as they say all funds have not been accounted for.
