Klopp reveals what Oxlade-Chamberlain said about Wenger

Yet it was only Oxlade-Chamberlain's fifth goal for Liverpool since joining the club in a £40m move from Arsenal last summer - something Klopp has been badgering the midfielder about.

"Slowly it is starting to pay off and it helps me to create moments like that and that is what I have wanted to do from midfield".

"He always thought it by himself "I could have done more". "The further you go the better the teams you play against and you don't get many opportunities so you have to be clinical". At times it has gone against me because I can be hard on myself and beat myself up a bit.

Over the course of seven seasons with Arsenal, Oxlade-Chamberlain's career trajectory was both counter-intuitive and indicative of much of what is now wrong with the club.

Now on the brink of his first Champions League semi-final having scored an absolute belter to down City at Anfield, Oxlade-Chamberlain may well feel vindicated.

City can win the Premier League on Saturday, if they defeat Manchester United, while the Reds are attempting to qualify for the Champions League for next season - they now sit third, 10 points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea.

"There were a few runs I did in the first half where I broke the line and it was just the last man I didn't manage to get past or didn't get the shot off and it is those moments where I could have had a second goal or set someone up that I can work on". Where, at Arsenal, one good game may have been followed by three directionless performances, that trend needs to be reversed over the coming seasons.

"It got me going and I'm sure it got the rest of the boys going".

Before that trip down the M62, however, comes a brief jaunt across Stanley Park for the 231st Merseyside derby against bitter rivals Everton.

"But we've got a great squad and I'm sure we can go there [to the Etihad Stadium] and put in a good performance".

"It's testament to him: he's getting games, he knows what he's meant to be doing, he's getting in the team, he's got a game plan and he's carrying it out perfectly". "In this competition we're going to play quality sides and we're going to have to defend well at times and that was what we showed in the second half".

"It's only the first leg, so we need to make sure we do it again away".
