The Dangerous Work Of Spreading Christianity In North Korea

Quoting various US officials, the report said a team at the Central Intelligence Agency, led by its Director Mike Pompeo, has been working through back-channels to make arrangements for the high-profile talks.

US and North Korean intelligence officials have spoken a couple of times and even met in a third country, CNN reported.

The North Koreans are pushing to have the meeting in their capital, Pyongyang, the sources said, although it is unclear whether the White House would be willing to hold the talks there.

"The U.S. has confirmed that Kim Jong Un is willing to discuss the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula", a U.S. official told the Wall Street Journal on Sunday.

CNN reported that North Korea wants to have the meeting in its capital, Pyongyang, and that preparations are under way for a possible meeting between Pompeo and the head of the Reconnaissance General Bureau, North Korea's intelligence agency.

South Korean envoys visited Washington last month to convey Kim's invitation to meet.

South Korea's presidential office said that the country's defense and foreign ministers and some other senior officials visited Panmunjom together on Friday.

Michael Pompeo, the U.S. Secretary of State, and the team from the Central Intelligence Agency are dealing with the preparations to the summit. North Korea had relayed that proposal to the USA, according Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun.

"It's a natural step in the right direction". However, he added that it does not make a positive outcome more likely.

However, increased exercise was seen by satellite at a North Korean nuclear website in February, pics of which imply the North has begun preliminary testing of a newfound light water reactor and possibly attracted still another reactor online at its Yongbyon Nuclear Research Center.

US President Donald Trump said that he was looking forward to meeting Kim Jong Un, with the North Korean leader confirming a willingness to maintain a dialogue with Washington. Trump, who has exchanged bellicose threats with Kim in the past year, surprised the world by quickly agreeing to meet Kim to discuss the crisis over Pyongyang's development of nuclear weapons capable of hitting the United States.
