Bruce McArthur expected to be charged with seventh murder today

Police have identified the remains of three more men suspected to have been murdered by alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur as they expand their investigation more than four decades into the past.

Bruce McArthur, who appeared in court through a video link, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Abdulbasir Faizi.

Earlier in the day, McArthur was charged with a seventh count of first-degree murder.

Since McArthur's arrest in January, police have found the remains of at least seven people in planters on a Leaside property where McArthur used to work.

Speaking at a news conference to provide new information about the investigation, which has made global headlines, lead investigator Det.

He is also accused of killing Selim Esen, Andrew Kinsman, Soroush Mahmudi and Dean Lisowick. Later that month, McArthur was charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Kayhan, Mahmudi and Lisowick. McArthur has already been charged in the deaths of the other two men, Majeed Kayhan and Skandaraj Navaratnam, included in the Project Houston probe.

In March, police also released a photo of a dead man believed to be another victim. It closed after 18 months as it did not establish the whereabouts of the missing men or resolve the circumstances on their disappearances, police said.

Police are also still reviewing seven cold case files dating back to the 1970s involving gay men who were slain in Toronto's downtown core after leaving bars popular in the LGBTQ community.

Det. -Sgt. Idsinga says police are preparing to expand their search for human remains to 75 locations in the Metro Toronto area where McArthur worked as a landscaper.

His auto was found abandoned not far from McArthur's home.

Bruce McArthur has been charged with the first-degree murder of Abdulbasir Faizi. The remains of all but Kayhan have been identified among those recovered from the planters at the Leaside home.

Since his arrest, questions have been mounting about past interactions between McArthur and police, following revelations that police questioned him in 2016 in connection to an alleged assault on another man but was let go.

"We've quite frankly never seen anything like it", Idsinga said.

Lisowick, a homeless prostitute who struggled with drugs hadn't even been reported missing when police announced he was one of victims. McArthur popped up on the police radar in the fall of 2017 as part of Project Prism.
