Afghan district governor among 13 killed in Taliban attack
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack through a WhatsApp message to journalists, saying "more than 20 police" were killed and several others wounded.
According to Associated Press, the blistering attack in the Khwaja Omari district was the latest insurgent assault in Ghazni province.
The Taliban on Thursday afternoon had stormed a government chemical in a middle province, tripping an hours-long gunbattle that murdered 1-5, comprising three top rated officials. The Taliban used heavy weapons, he said.
The Taliban carried out two attacks in Afghanistan overnight, killing at least ten people, officials said on Friday.
The militants had vowed to take revenge over an Afghan air strike last week in an area controlled by the group in the northern province of Kunduz. The Taleban planted mines to prevent government reinforcements from coming to help and quickly took responsibility for the attack.
"In the attack, three mujahideen were martyred and four others were wounded".
The attack occurred in Herat's Shindand district, said the district's governor, Shukrullah Shaker.
The province of Ghazni is located south of Kabul province, the seat of the country's capital, Kabul, and lies along a key route.
Mohammad Arif Rahmani, a lawmaker has said the district governor, intelligence service director and a deputy police official were among those killed in Thursday's attack.
The Taliban controls large swaths of Ghazni, a strategic province near the border with Pakistan. However, Moseni has also claimed that 45 Taliban were also killed and eight members of the Afghan security forces were wounded.
The militants killed district governor Ali Dost Shams, his bodyguards, seven police officers and five government intelligence agents, said Ramazan Ali Mohseni, deputy police chief in Ghazni.
