Pep Guardiola: 'Manchester United can still catch Manchester City'

Guardiola fires title warning Of course United can still win PL

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola believes Chelsea and Manchester United were among the Premier League clubs who voted against the introduction of video assistant referee (VAR) from next season onwards.

The Citizens have raced well clear of the chasing pack, finding themselves 13 points clear of closest challengers United with a month of the campaign left to go.

They travel to Wembley on the back of three straight defeats, having lost 5-1 to Liverpool over two legs in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and 3-2 to Jose Mourinho's United last weekend. "But in football it can happen".

Here we take a look at some interesting match facts and stats ahead of what is an important fixture for both teams, for different reasons.

Speaking at a press conference, Guardiola said: "Since November and December we have already been champions - when I saw pundits and people (say it is) "impossible for City to drop points". It is going to be a hard game for us". We need five points from six games and our first chance is [Saturday] in one of the toughest games. "We handled the pressure - the good, the bad situations - the whole season". We have to handle that.

"The exceptional thing has been 10 months winning, winning, winning and losing just one game", said Guardiola, whose side need two wins to guarantee themselves the title.

"In football it can happen, of course it can, I assure you", said Guardiola when asked if City could yet feel the pressure of a challenge from United. Real Madrid, years ago, lost six games and didn't win the league. So of course it can happen, no doubts about that.

"I don't know about Swansea but hopefully he will be ready for the last games and the World Cup". In the National Basketball Association finals one team recovered from 3-1 down. Cleveland Cavaliers won against Golden State Warriors 4-3. That is a good advantage.

City could clinch their third league title in seven seasons if they beat Tottenham on Saturday and United lose against West Bromwich Albion but Guardiola does not expect Jose Mourinho's side to lose momentum in the final stretch.
