President Farmajo leaves for Saudi Arabia to attend Arab League Summit

In an opening speech, Saudi Arabia's King Salman also criticized Iran's "blatant interference in other countries".

The Arab League chief affirmed his confidence in Arab leaders in supporting the Arab League, which he described as the "house of Arabs, which needs financial support for effective movement on different issues".

Saud al-Qahtani, Saudi royal court advisor, published a photo showing various Arab leaders before a simple dinner table spread after finishing the conclusion of the 29th Arab League Summit held in Dhahran.

The gathering comes as America, Britain and France yesterday launched a coordinated airstrike in Syria to punish the regime for a chemical weapons attack that killed more than 70 people.

Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, announced at the meeting a $150 million donation to the religious administration that oversees Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque - one of Islam's holiest sites.

Gheit condemned Iranian interference in Bahrain and other Arab countries.

"We reiterate our rejection of the USA decision on Jerusalem", Salman said.

"East Jerusalem is an integral part of the Palestinian territories", he stressed.

King Abdullah II of Jordan said the Arab World has the duty to support the Palestinians, which he called "the callers for peace", to get their legal rights in establishing the state.

Arab ministers at a preliminary meeting in Riyadh on Thursday focused heavily on blocking the move, unanimously condemning Trump's decision. The kingdom announced another $50 million for programs run by the United Nations relief agency for Palestinians after the USA slashed its aid.

Jerusalem remains at the heart of the Middle East conflict, with Palestinians hoping that East Jerusalem - occupied by Israel since 1967 - might eventually serve as the capital of a Palestinian state.

His words come just weeks after his son Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met Donald Trump.

The remark suggested increasing rapprochement with Israel, which like Riyadh, sees Tehran as its arch rival.

Saudi King Salman told leaders from across the 22-member Arab League that Iran was to blame for instability and meddling in the region.

The two regional titans, locked in proxy wars in Syria and in Saudi Arabia's southern neighbour Yemen, back opposing parties in Iraq and Lebanon.

The summit begins on Sunday in the East coast city of Dammam.

The King welcomed the statement issued by the Security Council, which strongly condemned the launching of Iran-made ballistic missiles by the Houthi militia on Saudi cities. Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for five counts of crimes against humanity, three counts of genocide and two counts of war crimes.

Summits of the Arab League, established in 1945, rarely result in action.

Syria has been suspended from the organization for the past seven years over Assad's initial crackdown on protests before the uprising turned into all-out war.
