Brady expected back, but hasn't committed to play 2018

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the five-time Superbowl victor is yet to give the Patriots any assurances that he will return for the 2018 season. Schefter did add that people close to him believe he'll play next season.

Brady was the MVP of the 2017 NFL season, at 40 the oldest MVP in league history. "Also, Brady continued his normal workout regimen/diet to this point, even while in Qatar". It's as if everything needs to be confirmed these days, which Brady already did back in February.

There also are questions about the future of Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, who has not attended the opening week of the team's offseason workout program.

"I believe he's going to be there", another person who knows Brady told ESPN. I'm excited for Carson to get back on his feet. Brady set multiple Super Bowl record - most passing yards (505), games played (eight), most passes in his Super Bowl career (235), passing yards in a career (2,576) and career touchdown passes (18).

A lack of a firm decision from Brady could impact how aggressively the Patriots intend to pursue a quarterback in next week's draft. It's unlikely that Belichick would throw one of them to the wolves in Year 1 - which makes finding a stop-gap more likely.

The Eagles are said to be seeking at least one (possibly) two first round picks for Foles, which is likely not a price Bill Belichick would be willing to pay.

Aside from Brady, the Patriots only have veteran Brian Hoyer in their quarterback depth chart.

They might need a new one sooner than later.
