President Trump Hosts Press Conference With Japanese Prime Minister Abe

U.S. President Donald Trump has a list of candidate cities and countries for the highly anticipated summit with Kim Jong Un.

Still, he maintained he'd be willing to stand up and leave the highly anticipated summit should the meeting fall short of his expectations.

Trump has made a regular habit of profiting from the presidency, which he began right after his inauguration with another visit from Japan's prime minister.

Larry Kudlow, the director of the National Economic Council, had said earlier Tuesday that issuing Japan the waiver was "on the table", but he declined to say what Trump would ask for in return.

He added that he's going to "weed down" the deficit with Japan very soon and said they've ordered tens of billions of dollars in aircraft, which will help in the effort.

While President Donald Trump hit his Florida golf course with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday, first lady Melania Trump engaged Abe's wife in a perhaps more educational activity.

"We're doing our very best" to get them released, he said.

Trump also gave Abe a win on Tuesday, pledging to raise the issue of Japanese citizens abducted by North Korea, a top Japanese priority, in his meeting with Kim.

Both men put forward displays of bonhomie during their extensive time together. The media encounter will be the first formal opportunity for reporters to also cross-examine Trump about Friday's military strikes on Syria to punish an alleged chemical weapons attack by the Assad regime.

But tensions were visible. "North Korea summit", the 73-year-old said. "When we have a auto go through Japan, which aren't allowed to go there, we have to take down the barriers and we have to pay the same tax", Trump said.

Then he offered a plug for his Mar-a-Lago resort where the talks are taking place - in a way likely to perturb critics who accuse him of using his presidency as a platform to promote his businesses.

Trump also said he hoped a planned meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to discuss denuclearization would be successful but that he would walk out if it was not.

Last week, in a meeting with farm-state lawmakers and governors, Trump floated the idea of rejoining a trade deal with Japan and 10 other countries that the Obama administration negotiated.

The two presidents have previously been in sync on all things related to handling Kim, and not receiving the latest memo prior to the Twitter announcements might not jive. But Abe has worked to gain a commitment that missile testing will also be on the agenda.
