Ronny Jackson will not return as Trump's physician

The White House said Friday that internal records raise doubt about some of the most serious allegations leveled against White House doctor Ronny Jackson in his failed bid to become the next secretary of Veterans Affairs.

Ronny Jackson, a Navy rear admiral whom President Trump unsuccessfully nominated to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs, will not return to his previous role as the president's personal physician, a White House official said Sunday.

Jackson is "a truly high-quality human being", Trump said.

When he ran for president, candidate Donald Trump promised to hire "the best people" and said he would look at potential cabinet members' "track record, great confidence, love of what they're doing, how they get along with people, references". He called Jackson "the kind of man that those in Montana would most respect and admire, and now, for no reason whatsoever, his reputation has been shattered".

In his statement of withdrawal, Jackson called the allegations against him "completely false and fabricated".

His threat follows a Saturday tweet from the president in which Trump suggested Tester should resign following the "phony" charges he made against Jackson.

TRUMP: "What Jon Tester did to this man is a shame".

If the White House had conducted the equivalent of "opposition research" on Jackson - as has been standard for high-level nominees in past administrations - it might never have pursued his nomination. Tester also charged that Jackson was over-prescribing prescription drugs and fostering a hostile work environment. Tester said the allegations came from Jackson's current and former colleagues. Both Tester and the committee's Republican chairman, Senator Johnny Isakson, signed a letter demanding that the claims against Jackson be investigated.

"Repeatedly, Democrats have tried in charge President Trump for their very own inaction, however it's their very own management - Nancy Pelosi - who failed to incorporate the VA Alternative laws within the 2000 web page omnibus invoice", Gidley stated.

Trump told Fox News that Jackson's decision did not surprise him - "I saw where this was going" - and said "it's a disgrace" the way his nominees have been treated, including "Doc Ronny".

"The next secretary must have a commitment to reform a strained health care system and a willingness to stand up to special interests who want to privatize the VA", Tester said. Democrats also say he he "wrecked" a vehicle after drinking at a Secret Service going-away party. The Secret Service has denied the allegations. As well as, the White Home medical unit that Jackson ran efficiently handed common controlled-substance audits, in accordance with the information for the final three years. You have President Trump giving him an A+ report.

Coincidentally, Trump had a previously scheduled event with wounded veterans at the White House on Thursday, just hours after Jackson announced he was pulling his nomination.

While Trump and Merkel have not enjoyed the close relationship the president has developed with other leaders, like French President Emmanuel Macron, in this visit they made a show of congeniality, with Trump speaking of his desire for a "reciprocal relationship" and calling Merkel an "extraordinary woman".
