Ashley Judd Sues Harvey Weinstein for Sexual Harassment and Defamation

Actress Ashley Judd

In a defamation and sexual harassment suit filed Monday against Weinstein, the actress claims the embattled former Hollywood mogul warned Jackson that Judd "was a "nightmare" to work with and should be avoided "at all costs.'" Judd says Weinstein essentially 'torpedoed" her career because she had refused his alleged sexual advances, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The actor said in a statement to the New York Times that any financial recuperation from the lawsuit would be donated to Time's Up "so that women and men in all professions may have legal redress for sexual harassment, economic retaliation and damage to their careers". "A self-described 'benevolent dictator' who has bragged that 'I can be scary,' Weinstein used his power in the entertainment industry to damage Ms. Judd's reputation and limit her ability to find work".

Judd is claiming sexual harassment and defamation and is seeking unspecified damages.

"He also effectively blocked Ms. Judd from future opportunities to work with Mr. Jackson and Ms. Walsh". The Oscar-winning producer has since been accused of sexual impropriety by more than 70 women.

"There it is, confirmation that Harvey Weinstein derailed my career, something I suspected but was unsure", Sorvino tweeted.

"It's time that Mr. Weinstein be held accountable for that conduct and for the ways in which he's damaged careers".

"My career opportunities, after having been defamed by Harvey Weinstein, were significantly diminished", Judd told ABC News.

Weinstein has denied all allegations of sexual assault and has not commented on Judd's lawsuit. "Thereafter, Ms. Judd was hired for not one, but two of Mr. Weinstein's movies, Frida in 2002 and Crossing Over with Harrison Ford in 2009", the statement read.

"We look forward to a vigorous defense of these claims", Weinstein's statement added. At the time, we had no reason to question what these guys were telling us - but in hindsight, I realize that this was very likely the Miramax smear campaign in full swing...

"Mr. Weinstein has nothing but the utmost respect for Peter Jackson".

Ashley Judd and her lawyers have filed a lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein, whom she alleges sexually harassed her and then blacklisted her in Hollywood. Thank you Peter Jackson for being honest. "Ms. Judd brings this complaint to vindicate that principle, and to right the wrongs that Weinstein committed against her, among so many others".
