"I thank President Trump or making this historic moment come to fruition", he said in a statement released by his office.

PLO Secretary General Saeb Erekat, on Monday, said that by recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital and moving its embassy thereto, the Trump administration is violating its obligations under worldwide law, including UNSCR 478, and America's own commitments towards the peace process.

The announcement follows President Trump recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The United States will be sending a delegation comprised of some 300 dignitaries and officials, with rumors circulating that Trump may himself be in attendance.

Other members include U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin, assistant and senior advisor to the president Jared Kushner, assistant and advisor to the president Ivanka Trump, and Jason Greenblatt, assistant to the president and special representative for worldwide negotiations.

Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Jewish people - and the world is beginning to recognize this fact!

Trump formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital and announced the embassy relocation on December 6.

"US Embassy" road signs, in English, Hebrew, and Arabic, were installed in Jerusalem on Monday, close to the south Jerusalem location of a US consulate building that will be repurposed as US embassy on May 14, when it is officially relocated from Tel Aviv.

The global community largely recognizes Tel Aviv as Israel's capital.

"We are thrilled that the American Embassy is coming here, finally", said Ruthann Nahum, 64, a New Yorker who moved to Israel 35 years ago. Israel has made repeated offers of a two-state solution, once even offering to internationalize Jerusalem, but the Palestinians rejected them.

The status of Jerusalem is among the most contentious in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

It appeared to leave open the possibility that he could decide to make the trip at the last minute, not as a member of the presidential delegation, but on his own, as the president.

The new embassy is scheduled to open it's doors on Monday, May 14.
